Free Public Lecture
Perinatal Borderline Personality Disorder
Dr Valérie Giroux, psychiatrist
Tammy Desforges, occupational therapist
Summary
This presentation focuses on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in the perinatal period, from pregnancy through the first postpartum year. BPD symptoms can intensify during this time, affecting mothers' emotional regulation, parenting abilities, and the development of a secure mother-child bond, which may in turn influence the child's emotional and social development.
Join us to learn more about the prevalence of BPD in the perinatal period and its implications for parenthood, the mother-and-child relationship and developing child. You will also learn about the specialized services offered at Montfort Hospital to support mothers through therapy and parenting resources that promote healthier mother-child relationships. Finally, you will learn about current research aiming to refine and expand evidence-based treatments to better support families navigating BPD during this critical period.
